The “Great” American Road Trip

Let’s set the stage for quite an adventure:

Sweat making the hair stick to my forehead because the tiny car from the mid 1980’s had no air conditioning. This car has been selflessly serving our family through many different road trips to football games and drives to Grandma’s house, but this drive from Michigan to South Dakota was no small task for such a worn down car.

I remember it like it was yesterday. The sweat of my brothers still making me incredibly grossed out the only thing to break the silence of our broken am radio was the occasional yell from one of my brothers, “Slug bug!” And they would proceed to shove me either direction trying to get a good punch into the other’s shoulder.

Now, this story may sound like a wholesome tale of the average American road trip. No. This is a cautionary tale to every parent to never make your child go through that mess of a road trip in a car that should have never left the county.

Is It Finally Happening…Are Self-Driving Cars Taking Over?

The time has finally come. No, cars aren’t flying, and neither are pigs. But it’s the closest thing to it. What does this mean? What does this say about the human race? How far we have come in the however many years we’ve been around with technology. Due to this, are we obsolete? Are human operated vehicles simply a thing of the past now? What comes next? All of these are valid questions.

Did we ever think that this day was really going to come? I suppose someone predicted this at some point. I mean we had the cartoon show The Jetson’s to somewhat predict that cars would eventually be able to do more than just drive on solid ground. We probably can’t limit technology to anything, now that self-driving cars are around.

Lyft, a transportation company, much like Uber, has been talking about the future of self-driving vehicles, and how that would potentially come in to play with driving people around. They believe that within the next year or two, it is very possible they could be implementing self-driving vehicles to hit the road, and transport customers to and from their destinations.

So, when all is said and done, do you trust a potential robot with your life to get you to and from somewhere, or are you more of a traditional person, and would rather spend the gas money driving yourself?
