Swim With Cars: Amphicar’s Brief But Awesome Heyday

A car that can drive on land and swim in water is such an amazing idea for many people that dare to dream. And for a short period that dream was a reality.

The AmphicarAmphicar-stuttgart-2005 amphicars

Amphicar was the brainchild of Hans Trippel, a German auto designer who is better known for the gullwing doors of Mercedes-Benz sports cars. Trippel experimented with amphibious cars in the 1930s and later built several hundred heavy duty military ones during World War II. A competing military design from Volkswagen called the Schwimmwagen was a little more successful than his.

After the war, Mr. Trippel returned to his dream of building a commercially viable amphibious car. But after designing a prototype of the Amphicar, he had no more involvement with its Berlin manufacturer.

It was all for the best. After making a splash (pun intended) at the 1961 New York Auto Show, the company thought it could sell tens of thousands a year to Americans. Those estimates turned out to be way too optimistic. Between 1962 and 1967 fewer than 3,800 were sold in North America plus only a few hundred more in Europe. Many were simply given away to employees.

A publicity stunt that involved a successful crossing of the English Channel got headlines. Another in the Strait of Gibraltar was less successful, since it involved the first-ever collision of a ship and an automobile. More strict U.S. safety requirements in 1968 finally sank (again, pun intended) Amphicar Corp. itself.

There have been other attempts at passenger cars that float, fly or even can submerge, but none approaching Amphicar’s brief heyday.

While people tend to be terribly fascinated with them, they tend not to buy them.

Why Your Old Car Just Isn’t Cutting It

How many more miles are you willing to waste your money on driving that unsafe hunk of junk you call a car?

Just bare with me for some more reasons why you need a new car.

  1. Good gravy that thing is a death trap. Anything above 65 mph make it start shaking like a leaf. There is a mysterious thud that is calling to impending doom. Generally, nothing about your decision to keep this car for this long is a safe idea.
  2. A fresh start isn’t a bad thing. I’m sure you have tons of good memories in that car. But what about the bad ones? All of the times it left you stranded in the middle of nowhere. All of the sweaty drives that you had to endure in the dead heat of summer without air conditioning. Isn’t it time for some new and better memories?
  3. Do you honestly think that keeping that thing for this long as saved you money? After all of the hours and days in the shop, and all of the wasted gas money (because you know it only gets 16 miles per gallon), and the dates lost after they saw your horrid mess of a car, you have not saved a penny. You may as well have set your wallet on fire.
  4. How much more are you willing to get made fun of by your friends for all of your silly fixes? Is your bumper held on by duct tape… or not on at all? Is your shifter not a shifter at all, but something else that is definitely not being used for it’s intended purpose? I think it’s time for a change.junk-1 car

But worry not! There are options for you. That new car isn’t as unattainable as you think. Apply for a auto loan today and start saving money and start making those new memories.

The automotive world is on its way to the next level. Every year new car models are being released for years that aren’t even here yet. The current year is 2016 and all of the cars being advertised are 2017 models. It seems as though the auto industry is always one step ahead, and coming up with designs, features, and models that we need in the future, for the present. Why shouldn’t we be the same way?

Some Features Can Be A Hassle, But These 5 Features Are Game Changers

We all have ideas of gadgets and gizmos to help make our lives a whole lot easier, but do you ever consider the accessories and features in your very own vehicle, that enhance your driving experience? Here are just a few:features

  • Push to Start Wireless Key Fob – The simplicity of not having to actually put a key in the ignition makes you feel like you’re flashing into the future 10 years.
  • Heated Steering Wheel – An amazing feature to have in the middle of winter. There’s nothing worse than trying to hold on to the steering wheel when it’s almost frozen solid.
  • Bluetooth Radio and Sound System – No more need for a wired AUX cord. They get in the way, and some how you always lose them. Bluetooth is the way to go.
  • Sunroof – You can never go wrong with a classic sunroof. Perfect for stargazing on a date late at night, or during the hot summer days when you want some cool air.

To Lease A Car Or To Buy A Car, That Is The Question

When you got your first car, it’s definitely possible that it was a hand-me-down car, or that it was a used vehicle, and not a brand new, hot off the line car, never been used before. On the other hand, it could very well have been a brand new car. Who knows? First cars are different for everyone. But whether or not it’s your first car, third car, or 10th car, there is always that age-old question. Should I buy a car, or lease a car?

And what a good question indeed. Obviously there are many pros and cons to either leasing a car or buying a car. We can get into that right now.

Lease or Buy: Help Me Choose

It’s tough to say which one is the better option, or even the more cost efficient option, because both have pros and cons.

Leasing allows you to have a car for a certain period of time, and once the lease is up, get a new car that you maybe want to try out.

You are not set in stone with one specific vehicle.

Buying a car gives you full rights and legal authority with your vehicle.

Customization and accessibility increases when buying a car.

Depending on how you like to view money, you either need to make monthly payments on a lease, or pay up front to purchase a vehicle. This could really be seen as a positive or negative depending on your stance.

Leasing means you are restricted on the number of miles you can travel.

Buying a car requires maintenance, typically more often than leasing.

So no matter what way you look at it, both have good sides and bad sides, it all just depends on how you like to look at the situation. But none of this really matters if you cant afford getting a car. Luckily there’s an easy way to do that.

5 Ways to Decorate Your Car to Feel More Like Home

Are you living a boring, routine life, and looking to add a bit of spice and flavor to your everyday life? Maybe you can’t be spontaneous and chop off all of your hair, or go get that tattoo you and your friends always joke around about, but you can do something to your car, your second home!

You may be thinking, my car? How does that spice anything up in my life? Well just think about it! You get into your car every morning and drive it to work. You take the same route back home after a long day of work. Whenever you’re with friends going somewhere, you’re all crammed into your car! Why not make things a little more interesting?

Home Is Where the Car Ishome

Sure, it may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but everyone says your car is the automotive embodiment of you, right? Maybe that’s just me. Either way if you want to add some character to your car, here are just a few easy ways to go about doing that:

  • Add some fun seat covers or a steering wheel cover!
  • Decorate the outside of your car with a bumper sticker or a fun license plate frame
  • Add in a custom radio or sound system
  • Get a brand new paint job, in a color you’ve never had before.
  • Add accessories and gadgets to the inside of your car

Now these may not really seem like drastic changes to your car, but add some small thing. Changing something can completely alter the feel of your car. It can definitely make it feel a bit homier. Don’t have a car, and looking to get your own so you can make it your own, not a problem!

3 Easy Ways to Keep Your Car Healthy And Running Great

Your car should be one of the most important things in your life. Considering its one of the only things that you can rely on for transportation. Let’s be honest here, your car will do you no good if it is not kept in great condition. Sure it can still work, but the chances of it failing on you, or something bad happening is far greater if you don’t make sure that it stays healthy and running smoothly.

Healthy, Happy, and Running Like It’s the Very First Timehealthy

Now there are people who regularly do maintenance on their vehicle and make sure everything is up to date. Then there are people who do not do that. Don’t be that person. It doesn’t take much to check a gauge or go into a shop every once in a while, and the benefits far outweigh the “pain in the butt” 10 minutes or less it would take to actually check all of the things in your car. Here are 3 extremely easy ways to keep your car running and healthy:

  • Check your oil – A common misconception about your oil is that you can check it whenever you want. In reality you should drive around for a while before checking your oil. Make sure it’s running properly.
  • Get your tires filled regularly – This one isn’t all that tough. Some places offer free air to fill up your tires. If they don’t, most places offer to do it free of charge with an oil change. Kill two birds with one stone.
  • Regularly wash your car – Although this one doesn’t necessarily help the health and longevity of your vehicle, it’s always nice to see a car clean and appealing to the eye.

It’s a pretty easy job keeping your car up and running, and if you don’t, you may need to look into getting a new car, which is really easy to do when you apply for an auto loan.

Does Switching to an Electric Car ACTUALLY Save You Any Money?

We’ve come to a point in time where the things that we rely on most for transportation, can essentially transport themselves. They evolution of the automotive industry as a whole is one of the most extraordinary things that has happened to us humans. One of the biggest things that people run into now a day, however, is the age-old question of fuel, or an electric car?

Wait A Second…I Thought Electric Cars We’re Just a Myth?

A myth? Far from it! You must have been living under a rock, because electric cars have been around for years and years, and it seems as though no one truly takes advantage of everything that they have to offer.

Let’s think about it for a second. Think about the brilliance behind using an electric car instead of one that runs on fuel.

Why Go to an Electric Car: electric car

  • They are a lot more quiet than a car that runs on fuel
  • No need to keep paying to fill up your gas tank
  • Charging at home is easy and convenient
  • GREAT for the environment

Need we say more? Although it’s very obvious that cars run by fuel still run the high way and most of our streets, you can’t deny the growth of electric cars as well. More people seem to be stepping up and caring more about their environment, enough to stop omitting fuels into the atmosphere.

There’s really no right or wrong choice for a car to drive when you’re looking for a car to get, or whether or not to change, because in the end, it’s really all just about your own personal preference. But, as most people like to do in this world, conforming is something that is important to a lot of people. So, if more and more people are looking to get and electric car, what about you? Getting a car can be tough sometimes, but it doesn’t have to be.

Is It Finally Happening…Are Self-Driving Cars Taking Over?

The time has finally come. No, cars aren’t flying, and neither are pigs. But it’s the closest thing to it. Technology has reached a point that is so advanced, that humans are no longer a necessity to have in a vehicle for it to drive. What’s that? You need to hear that again? Alright. SELF-DRIVING CARS EXIST!

What does this mean? What does this say about the human race? How far we have come in the however many years we’ve been around with technology. Due to this, are we obsolete? Are human operated vehicles simply a thing of the past now? What comes next? All of these are valid questions.

Self-Driving, Self-Functioning, and Self-Aware?self-driving

Did we ever think that this day was really going to come? I suppose someone predicted this at some point. I mean we had the cartoon show The Jetson’s to somewhat predict that cars would eventually be able to do more than just drive on solid ground. We probably can’t limit technology to anything, now that self-driving cars are around.

Lyft, a transportation company, much like Uber, has been talking about the future of self-driving vehicles, and how that would potentially come in to play with driving people around. They believe that within the next year or two, it is very possible they could be implementing self-driving vehicles to hit the road, and transport customers to and from their destinations.

So, when all is said and done, do you trust a potential robot with your life to get you to and from somewhere, or are you more of a traditional person, and would rather spend the gas money driving yourself? Either way, someone’s got to drive, and if it’s you, you’re going to want to make sure you have the right type of car to get you where you need to be.

Uber: the Transportation Method of the Generation

“Hey, wanna get an Uber?” a very famous line said by most teens and young adults now a days. For those of you who don’t know, this company is an extremely up and coming transportation company based online. Let’s dive a bit more into what exactly an Uber is.

This transportation service runs on “request via app.” This essentially means that a user can request a driver based on their location, get picked up, just like a taxi, and get taken to their destination, without the hassle of having to pay the driver on the spot. Uber is hooked up to your credit card so you automatically get charged as soon as the ride is over, based on the route of your trip. It’s easy, it’s convenient, and they pride themselves on being friendly and a laid back service.

Uber In Motownuber

Having the headquarters located out of San Francisco, CA, it makes it tough to reach all employees and reach the full target audience they may be looking for. Moving to one of the bigger cities in the Mid West is a huge step in the right direction not only for them as a company, but also for the community of Detroit, and the state of Michigan. Unemployment rates could potentially decrease due to an increase of job opportunities with Uber as well.

Uber allows anyone to apply and become a driver. It’s an extremely easy way to make extra cash on your own time, considering the hours that Uber offers. But to be a driver, you need to make sure that you have a reliable car. You need a vehicle that can keep you and the passengers that you’re driving safe as well. So, make sure that your vehicle is in tiptop shape, and Uber can be just the right job for you. With a Michigan Location opening up, expect to see more drivers out on the road than ever before!
